BREAKING NEWS: Woman Sues Tuscaloosa Abortion Clinic Over Allegedly Botched Abortion

Tuscaloosa Thread (12/06/21)

A woman from Shelby County has filed a medical malpractice lawsuit against the West Alabama Women’s Center (WAWC) in Tuscaloosa over an abortion that allegedly almost killed her and left her unable to become pregnant again last December. The five-count lawsuit was filed last month, on November 11th, in the circuit court of Tuscaloosa County. Judge Daniel F. Pruet, who was elected to his seat on the bench in 2020, will preside over the case.

“Predisposed to Suffer”

The suit centers on the plight of a Shelby County woman identified under the pseudonym “Jane Stone,” who reportedly first visited the WAWC on December 22, 2020, for a pre-admission evaluation for an abortion. “Jane Stone informed [a nurse] that she decided to have an abortion after prenatal genealogical testing revealed that her child was predisposed to suffer from lifelong health disorders, including Downs [sic] Syndrome,” according to the lawsuit. Stone also allegedly asked about the risks specific to the pregnancy termination procedure recommended to her, which is called Dilation & Evacuation. She was told that hemorrhaging was the primary complication that arose after the procedure, and a nurse allegedly explained that “a patient had died following a procedure performed at the clinic, but … the patient’s death was the result of drug use and not related to the procedure or complications of the procedure.” Stone underwent an ultrasound and scheduled her abortion for December 28th, 2020. Tamer Yvette Middleton, a Georgia physician who practices at the West Alabama Women’s Center, was set to perform the procedure.

The Process

(Editor’s note: the paragraphs below will describe an abortion procedure in detail and also outline how Jane Stone’s reportedly went wrong. Reader discretion is advised.) After setting the stage with this background information, the lawsuit explains the process of a Dilation and Evacuation procedure. According to the complaint, a D&E is the “preferred method” for performing late first-trimester and second-trimester abortions. Essentially, instruments are passed through the cervix and into the uterus, where the fetus is then vacuumed out of the body. The procedure requires advance preparation, called cervical priming, to allow the medical instruments to pass safely into the uterus. According to the lawsuit, this priming is usually done through medications such as Cytotec, which softens, thins and opens the cervix before the procedure. “In order to properly dilate the cervix pre-operatively, the woman must receive the agent at least three hours prior to her procedure,” the complaint read.

We need baby booties!

We need crocheted or knitted baby booties! All colors & styles are welcome and appreciated. These booties are often given to women who are being counseled by prolife advocates outside of West Alabama Women’s Center in Tuscaloosa. They are a wonderful reminders to abortion minded women that their babies are not just “blobs of tissue”, but have little feet that these booties would one day fit if given a chance.

Alabama Governor Kay Ivey Condemns Abortion: “Every Life is Precious and a Sacred Gift From God”

(Life News) The notion that one cannot be an advocate for both women and unborn children is simply wrong. Those that pit women against their unborn babies are not advancing solutions, but instead making these children the unjustified scapegoats when we could be making real, meaningful progress, not only for the women of today, but also of tomorrow. No doubt, that includes those unborn baby girls. If we truly want to continue taking steps forward for women’s rights, let’s empower women and be a voice for unborn children.

In 1973, before our country had even seen a woman serve on the U.S. Supreme Court, Roe. v. Wade was decided, but the debate would fiercely continue. Nearly fifty years later, the people of Alabama and folks around the country hold this issue with such high importance that they put candidates in offices ranging from the White House to their State Legislature based on their willingness to fight for life. Here in Alabama, we will continue this fight until all unborn children are protected once and for all.

Nearly five decades after Roe v. Wade – and we are still fighting this fight.

Abortionist Leah Torres made ‘deceptive’ and ‘untruthful’ claims, says Alabama medical board

(Live Action) Abortionist Dr. Leah Torres — who previously made headlines for profoundly tone-deaf and grotesque pro-abortion statements such as “God performs way more abortions than I do” and for calling “not being pregnant anymore” a “medical indication” for abortion — once again has an active medical license in the state of Alabama. Yet interestingly, Torres’ account of the restoration of her current license does not match the account of the General Counsel of the Alabama State Board of Medical Examiners (ASBME).

Last year, Torres’ temporary license to practice medicine in Alabama was revoked for alleged fraud on her application three weeks after she started working in the state. Over $115,000 in legal fees and an ethics class later, according to a GoFundMe set up to cover her court costs, Torres was granted a medical license in March 2021 and has been committing abortions at the same unsanitary Alabama abortion facility that was found responsible for killing 29-year-old April Lowery due to botched abortion in May 2020.

Be Like Texas?

Texas banned abortions once heartbeats were detected and they are enforcing this by private action only. This is not being enforced by government officials, but random people who can sue. This Texas abortion ban is legally brilliant. How about it Alabama, can we be like Texas?

Alabama House and Senate passes ‘born-alive’ bill to protect abortion survivors

Live Action reports that the Alabama Senate passed HB 237, a born-alive abortion survivor’s protection bill known as “Gianna’s Law.” The bill is named for Gianna Jessen, an abortion survivor and pro-life activist. The Alabama House previously passed the bill in March. It will now head to the desk of Governor Kay Ivey who is expected to sign it. {UPDATE: Governor Ivey signed the bill into a law on Saturday, May 25, 2021}

“There is no such thing as post-birth abortion,” said the bill’s sponsor, State Rep. Ginny Shaver (R). “Think about those three words. That’s infanticide.”

“That’s what it is and what my bill does is in this situation where a child survives an abortion attempt and is born alive, it would require a physician to exercise the same reasonable care to preserve the life of the child that is born alive,” she continued. “When this happens, if there is any sign of breathing or any other sign of life … there would then exist a doctor-patient relationship between the doctor and the child so that he would be required to exercise the same degree of physical skill and care to make an effort to reasonably preserve the life and health of that child.”
